THREE CUPS OF TEA reviewed by Irma Bish
This book is by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. The story is about Greg Mortenson, an American who loved to climb mountains. Greg was climbing K2, the world’s deadliest peak when he became lost and wandered into a small impoverished village in Pakistan. The people took him in and nursed him back to health. While he was there he saw there was no school, he decided to help them build one. Greg was not a rich man, he had no money to speak of and did not own anything of value. This was before 9/11, our knowledge of Al Qaeda or the Taliban. Greg went on to build not one school, but fifty-five schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan’s poorest communities. He was in Afghanistan when 9/11 occurred. The people he had build a relationship over the years helped to protect him and he is still working and building schools to this day. His main focus is to educate the people of that area so they can build a life without the root causes of terrorism, poverty and ignorance. (Reviewed by Irma Bish)
